The Clash of the Champions in the ‘Group of Death’
The German Champions and the English Champions meet in this thrilling Champions League group stage tie. With both teams in form it promises to be definitely a game to remember.
Manchester City comes into this game on the back of their amazing comeback against Fulham at the weekend. They would certainly be hoping to maintain their good home form of 17 unbeaten matches in European Competitions as Borussia Dortmund comes knocking. The match winner against Fulham, Edin Dzeko has already scored against the German side in May 2010 in a 1-all draw for Wolfsburg.
However Borussia Dortmund are in a much more finer form heading into the clash having beaten Borussia Monchengladbach 5 nil. The German side would be hoping to pick up all 3 points to place them in a great position as they fight for qualification from the ‘group of death’ with Real Madrid favorites to finish top of the group the second spot would probably go to one of the two teams. This is what makes this match even more interesting.
Although both teams had less that pleasant outing in the group stages last season, with Borussia Dortmund losing all their away matches in the group stages. This is also the first ever meeting of the two teams ever.
In the pre-match interview Mancini said ‘ I don’t need to learn. The Champions League is a difficult competition, but the football is the same, the players are the same, it is still 11 versus 11. The problem is that you play the best teams from other countries. Every game is difficult.’
“I think the time will come when we can win the Champions League but in this moment we are in a difficult group. Sometimes, when you play in the Champions League, you should be lucky with the draw. It is important for us to get into the second stage because, after that, anything can happen.”
It still remains to be seen if Mancini has what it takes to guide a team to the Champions league finals or even win it. Whilst at Internazionale he failed to lead his team past the quarter finals in four years. The questions still remains if Mancini really needs to learn how to coach a team in the Champions Leagues or Will Borussia Dortmund return to Germany with all three points.
We will all find out!!!!!!!!!
