"We do what we want,we do what we want-anttt,Manchester United,we do what we want"....
These words filter through the air in every premier league stadium from Old Trafford...and every other team playing United. The United fans sing it proudly and with great joy, as it is used to taunt the opposing fans and their teams. There Is a popular belief among a lot of supporters(from various teams) that Manchester United is favoured by the FA and Sir Alex Ferguson has each and every referee and match official in his pocket....and as we know it, extra time has now been called Fergie time as the Scots man taps his watch with so much energy..

It’s funny for a man with common sense, it’s a tease tool for United fans and to some extent, it is fact (Benitez favourite word) for a lot of other people. Rumours never become true till they are proven, when proven becomes fact but till proven, it just remains a matter of opinion. Been trying to look for situations that back up these people’s opinions just in case there is some truth(which I think there isn't) but let's see how it goes.
In the 1992/1993 premier league season, United were in a 3 way battle with Aston Villa and Norwich for the premier league title. On the 10th of April 1993, United were hosts to Sheffield Wednesday and needed to win that match to become premier league champions and their first in 26years.It was 1-1 coming to 90 minutes and an extra time of 5 minutes was given. United did score but they scored in the 8th minute...joy for the United fans but am sure heartbreak for a lot of other fans. This started the reign of trophies as united went on to present to win more trophies. Over the years with different penalties, match decisions, people have said or have concluded that united are favoured by every official due to Sir Alex Fergusons influence.
It is January 4, 2005 - United and Tottenham are goalless at Old Trafford after 89 minutes when Spurs midfielder Pedro Mendes spots Roy Carroll well off his line in the dying moments and attempts to beat the United keeper with an ambitious effort from just over the halfway line. Although Carroll gets back in time, he spills the ball two yards over his line but instinctively turns to scoop it away with his right hand. With referee Mark Clattenburg and his assistant Rob Lewis too far away from the incident to judge, Mendes is denied a winning goal and United escape with a point.

20th September 2009,it was in the 89th minute that United were leading Man city 3-2,a bad pass from Rio Ferdinand gave Craig Bellamy the ball, the welsh winger took the ball on the run from the half way line and went on to score the equaliser, making it almost certain that city will leave with a point. Extra time of 4 minutes was given, United scored by a Michael Owen goal in the 5th minute, giving United victory.
You could say that these decisions have all happened miles apart from each other and if we want to go back over the years to look at all decisions made in the premier league for different clubs am sure we will find out that there is no such favoured treatment that Manchester United gets. A quick decision (that wasn’t given) that comes to mind is Jen Vertonghen wrestle mania tackle he Gave on Nani, a clear cut penalty that wasn’t given...but to spice up these rumours..Mark Clattenburg was the referee when Man City beat United 6-1 at Old Trafford, he hasn’t refereed there since then. Mike dean was the Referee when Blackburn beat Man United 3-2 at Old Trafford, he hasn’t refereed there since then. Chris Foy was the referee last weekend when Spurs beat Man United 3-2 at Old Trafford; he has been demoted to refereeing the league Two game between Accrington Stanley and Rochdale for this weekend.
Hmmmmmm....interesting fact but not fact enough to prove or make Sir Alex be like the godfather. Till anything is proven....the chants shall continue....the United fans will continue to sing......we do what we want
In more words to come...Sabi Boi
