Chelsea vs norwich 15.00. 26/10/12
I might be eating a well served dish of humble pie come the end of may; and in case you’re wondering ,its not a real dish, and my birthday’s not in may either. I have been one of chelseas’ biggest detractors as i believed last years’ champions league win was a fluke ,and i thought(still do to be honest) that Di matteo did not have what it took to manage a club of chelsea's stature. So far i've been proven wrong as they sit pretty at the summit of the table. The blues are still unbeaten, and hold the best defensive record in the league this term. So up next is the visit of the canaries, who are still adjusting to mixing it up with the ‘Big’ boys.
Heres a little football trivia to get us on our way. Chelsea are unbeaten in seven games in all competitions against the Canaries. Chelsea have conceded just three goals in the Premier League this season, fewer than any other club, and Roberto di Matteo's side are the only team in the Premier League yet to concede a second half goal this season. Norwich have won just one of their last 11 Premier League matches and are without a victory this season. The Canaries' tally of four Premier League goals is the joint-lowest in the division with QPR, they have won just one of their last nine Premier League away games which was a 2-1 win at Spurs in April. Norwich have conceded in each of their last 36 Premier League away games, an unwanted record in the division.
On, paper, and from statistics, this would seem like a straight foward victory for the blues, but i think it would be far from that(lets not forget they gave man u a run for their money). Chelsea boss Roberto di Matteo could recall John Terry after he was dropped to the bench for their Champions League game this week. Eden Hazard is also likely to return having also started Tuesday's game among the substitutes, but Daniel Sturridge remains sidelined. Norwich could welcome back defender Sebastien Bassong (hamstring) who missed the 5-2 defeat by Liverpool. There would also be a late fitness test for Anthony Pilkington's back problem.
This match will not be a walkover for Roberto Di Matteo's side but in all fairness i expect them to continue in the rich vien of form they’ve had at the start to the season. The canaries don't look like they have the self belief to beat teams and also look like theyre always going to concede a goal or two. They've conceded too many goals already this season and thats a big worry, but at the same time they need to start scoring more too.
I know i’m supposed to be impartial in these posts; so ill do my best to do so.but i’d rather be eating apple pie come may, than i would the ‘humble’ one.
Till next time......
